TODO: maybe think of a way to make the syntax less awkward. there could
be a macro that builds the appropriate struct from fetch_what!("1:5,8")
and "parses" it along the way, a successful parse resulting in a valid
struct, and an unsuccessful one in a call to fail!() or something.. (or
a syntax error, to make the whole thing not compile)
